Affordable

Affordable Website Design for Small Business

Most Australian agencies will not tell you a price until you have sat through a discovery call. Ours start at $800, every figure is published on this page, and there is no monthly fee afterwards because you own the code. You also get a free homepage design before you spend anything.

What affordable actually means here

Affordable is a word every agency uses and almost none of them define. Here is our definition: a fixed price you can read before you contact us, no monthly platform fee, and full ownership of the code so you are never paying to stay.

A three to five page site is $800. Up to ten pages is $1,900. Unlimited pages is $3,500. E-commerce is $4,500. Those are the numbers, in AUD, before GST. Nothing changes unless the scope changes, and if it does we re-quote openly rather than quietly adding hours.

Cheap is a five-year number, not a sticker price

There are cheaper quotes than ours in Australia. Some start under $400. If the sticker price is the only number you compare, we lose that comparison, so here is the number that actually decides what a website costs you.

A website has two costs: what you pay to have it built, and what you pay every month afterwards to keep it online and keep it yours. The second one is the one nobody puts on their pricing page, and across five years it is usually the larger of the two.

Work it out for any quote you are holding, including ours:

Five-year cost = build price + (monthly fee × 60) + the cost of rebuilding if you ever need to leave.

Budget build on a locked platformBuild First Site
Build priceOften $400 - $900$800 (3-5 pages)
Monthly platform or CMS feeUsually charged, ongoingNone - you host it
HostingBundled into the monthly feeYear one included, then free on Vercel for most small business sites
Do you get the source code?Usually notYes - the repository is yours on launch day
Cost to move to another developerA full rebuildHand over the repo

We have deliberately left the dollar figure out of the middle column. Monthly fees vary by provider and change over time, and inventing a number to make our column look better would be dishonest. Do the sum yourself instead: find the monthly fee on the quote you are comparing, multiply it by 60, and add it to the build price. That is the real comparison. If a provider will not tell you the monthly fee, or cannot tell you what happens to your site if you stop paying it, that is the answer.

The other half of the sum is the exit cost. A site you do not own cannot be moved. When you outgrow the provider, or they raise the price, or they close, the only option is to pay to build it again. That risk is worth more than the few hundred dollars of difference at the start, and it is why we hand over the GitHub repository on launch day rather than renting you access to your own website. More on what drives the build price itself: what a website costs in Australia.

See your homepage designed before you pay anything

Choosing a web designer is mostly guesswork. You look at their portfolio, you hope your project turns out the same, and you find out after you have paid a deposit.

So we removed that risk. Tell us about your business and we will design your homepage first, using your real business name, your services and your photos. You see the actual design for your business, not a template with someone else stretched across it.

  • Completely free. No deposit, no commitment, no obligation to continue.
  • Your business, not a sample. Real name, real services, real content.
  • A design, not a live site. You get the homepage design so you can judge the quality before spending anything. The working build starts once you decide to go ahead.
  • Yours to walk away from. If you do not like it, that is genuinely the end of it.

Ask for one from the contact page and tell us what the business does.

Why we can charge $800 when agencies charge $5,000

Not because the work is worse. Because the overhead is smaller and we do not have to recover it from you.

Where agency money goesDo we have it?
Office lease in a capital cityNo
Sales team and account managersNo - you talk to the person building it
Discovery and proposal phase billed to youNo - prices are published
Project management overheadNo
Actual design and developmentYes - this is what you pay for

A $5,000 quote for a five page site is not five thousand dollars of building. It is roughly a thousand dollars of building and four thousand of everything else. We stripped out the everything else.

What you still get at $800

  • Custom design. Not a template with your logo dropped in.
  • Built on Next.js. The same stack large tech companies use, not a page builder.
  • SEO from the first line. Semantic HTML, structured data, meta, sitemap - wired in during the build, not sold back to you later.
  • Mobile first. Roughly 68% of Australian traffic is mobile, so that is where we start.
  • Full code ownership. Repository and hosting in your name.
  • Hosting included for year one, then free on Vercel for most small business sites.

Nothing is withheld to make a cheaper tier look worse. The only variable is how many pages you need - the full breakdown is on the pricing page.

When cheap is a false economy

Worth saying plainly, because it is the honest part of a page like this. Cheap becomes expensive when:

  • The site is built on a platform you cannot leave, so moving means paying to rebuild.
  • SEO was not included, so nobody finds it and you pay a second agency to retrofit it.
  • You do not get the code, so every small change has to go back through them.
  • It is a template thousands of other businesses are using, so it builds no distinctiveness.
  • There is a monthly fee that never ends and buys you nothing you keep.

A $20 a month builder is $1,200 over five years and you own nothing at the end of it. We set the real numbers out in what a website actually costs in Australia and in Wix vs a custom website.

Who this suits

Tradies, cafes, clinics, agents, consultants, retailers - any Australian small business that needs a credible site that brings in enquiries and does not want to spend five figures finding out whether it works. If you are in the trades specifically, the tradie website page covers suburb pages and click-to-call in more detail.

Common questions

How much is a landing page?

A single landing page falls inside our Starter package at $800 AUD, which covers three to five pages — so a one-page build costs the same as a small site and you may as well use the pages. Across the market a standalone landing page runs roughly $500 to $2,500 depending on whether the design is custom and whether copy is included.

How much does a small business website cost in Australia?

Ours are published: $800 AUD for three to five pages, $1,900 for up to ten pages, $3,500 for unlimited pages, and $4,500 for e-commerce. Australian agencies commonly quote $3,000 to $10,000 for the same scope. Every quote is fixed in writing before work starts.

Is the free homepage design really free?

Yes. You tell us about the business, we design your homepage using your real content, and you look at it. No deposit, no commitment, no obligation to continue. It is a design rather than a working site - the build begins only if you decide to go ahead.

Is a cheap website going to look cheap?

It should not, and you do not have to take our word for it. Open hsracegear.com, mobilearmour.com.au or banishshoes.com and run a speed test on any of them. Then ask for the free homepage design and judge your own before paying anything.

What is not included in the price?

Domain registration (roughly $15 to $20 a year), premium stock imagery or paid fonts if you specifically request them, and any third-party subscriptions such as an email marketing platform. Hosting is included for the first year. We tell you before you commit, not after.

Why is this so much cheaper than the quotes I am getting?

Because a large part of an agency quote is office lease, sales staff, account management and an unpaid discovery phase recovered across clients. We do not carry that overhead, so the price reflects the build rather than the business around it.
